Make & Bake a Dad Cake
The sun is set to shine on Father’s Day this Sunday. There may be some football on the telly (ahem), but best of all, we’ve searched through the recipe
books to bring you the perfect Dad-tastic sweet treat to make and bake with the children.
After much deliberation and testing (it's a tough job) we declare our champion Dad Bake to be these fabulous Chocolate Caramel Brownies. Easy, quick and fun to make, their striking combination of delicious, chocolatey scrumptious-ness makes them a win-win all round.
Yes, we'll stop that football thing right now...
Enjoy and Happy Father’s Day wherever you are!
- 180g dark chocolate
- 180g butter
- 260g caster sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 80g plain flour
- 50g cocoa powder
- 200g Galaxy Caramel milk chocolate, roughly
Step 1. Preheat the oven to 180C, gas mark 4. Break up the dark chocolate and place in a bowl with the butter. Place the bowl over a pan of simmering water and gently melt until smooth. Leave to cool slightly.
Step 2. Beat the sugar and eggs together (an electric whisk is best) and fold into the cooled, melted chocolate mixture.
Step 3. Sift the flour and cocoa into the mixture and give it a good stir with a big metal spoon.
Step 4. Fold in the chopped chocolate pieces and pour into a lined and buttered shallow cake tin (square is best). Ensure the baking paper falls over the edge so that the Brownies are easy to remove.
Step 5. Bake in the oven for 35-40 minutes. Leave to cool before lifting out. Cut into squares.
- Scrummy served warm with vanilla ice cream.
- For a seasonal fruity twist add raspberries or chopped fresh cherries to the mixture before baking.
